Top End Mobility Group, the consortium led by Ferrovial, has been selected to develop the express lanes of I-285 East in the metropolitan area of the U.S. city of Atlanta, in the state of Georgia, a contract with an estimated construction value of $8.9 billion (around €8 billion).

The Georgia Department of Transportation has chosen the Ferrovial consortium, which also includes Tikehau Star Infra, for the financing, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of phase 1 of the express lanes of I-285 East, within a long-term collaboration agreement.

This initial phase comprises approximately 33.8 kilometers of express lanes, as well as the main links between I-285, I-85, and SR 400. According to the company, the project will increase mobility alternatives, provide more predictable travel times, and facilitate connection to the state’s regional express lane network.

Additionally, the Department will work exclusively with Top End Mobility Group to advance the development of the following phases of the program. When all of them are completed, nearly 60.35 kilometers of additional express lanes in each direction will have been executed, linking relevant business, employment, and residential hubs in Fulton and DeKalb counties.

Ferrovial has previously driven express lane projects in other growing metropolitan areas in the United States, such as Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte, and Washington D.C., which gives it a solid foundation to promote long-term mobility solutions that accompany the sustained growth of the metropolitan area of Atlanta.

"I-285 East represents our first express lane project in Georgia and marks an important milestone for Ferrovial in a state where we have been present for more than a decade," highlighted Ignacio Madridejos, CEO of Ferrovial.

"Along with our construction projects in the region, this award demonstrates our ability to develop complex and large-scale infrastructures, which are essential to improve mobility and support economic growth. We look forward to closely collaborating with our public and private partners to carry out this initiative that seeks to enhance connectivity and create long-term value throughout the metropolitan area of Atlanta," he added.
