The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, has reiterated Spain's commitment to a tourism model of "greater added value," prioritizing economic impact over the simple number of travelers. Up to August, this activity has generated 99 billion euros, which represents an 8% increase compared to the same period last year, when the country received 70 million international tourists by that month.
During his speech at the CREO forum, organized by Cinco Días, Hereu emphasized that "The commitment to value, far above volume, is one of the essential elements," claiming Spain's leadership as a tourism power and the need for a public policy aligned with the challenges of the 21st century.
Hereu has maintained that the current growth pattern is "much more responsible" than that recorded between 1996 and 2007, as it is based on greater diversification of the economy and closer cooperation between administrations and the productive fabric.
In the industrial field, the minister has highlighted social dialogue as a key instrument of responsibility and result achievement, mentioning the recent agreement reached at Airbus as an example of consensus and good practice.
Additionally, he has pointed out that his department has allocated 11.6 billion euros in the last four years to accelerate industrial transformation, placing digitalization and energy transition as priority axes of this strategy.
