Iberia has resumed this Thursday, September 3, its direct flights between Madrid and the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, Caracas (Venezuela), after its schedule was disrupted by the earthquakes recorded in the Latin American country last June.
In this way, the airline led by Marco Sansavini returns to the Venezuelan capital with three connections a week —Monday, Thursday, and Sunday— as indicated by the airline to Europa Press.
After the provisional halt of activity at the mentioned airport, Iberia resumed operations with Venezuela on July 9, although using the Arturo Michelena International Airport, located in the city of Valencia. In addition, return flights to Madrid made a technical stop in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic).
At the same time, Air Europa has already been flying to Caracas since last Tuesday, coinciding with the resumption of operations that same day at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía.
In a statement, the president of the Presidential Commission for the Evaluation of Infrastructure Habitability, Francisco Garcés, reported that temporary terminals were enabled that have more than 10,000 square meters for public service and cover 25% of the usual operational capacity of the terminal.
Authorities urge travelers to be predictable and arrive at the facility two hours in advance for domestic trips and three hours for international itineraries.
Plus Ultra and other airlines resume their routes with Venezuela
On the other hand, September 8 will be the day when Plus Ultra resumes its link with Caracas with a weekly frequency on Tuesdays, although it will continue to maintain the rest of its operations to Valencia until the airport in the capital returns to normal and air traffic is fully restored.
As for the rest of the operators, American Airlines has also confirmed that it will resume its direct flights between Miami and Caracas starting this Thursday, just like Iberia. For its part, Copa Airlines reactivated its connections with Caracas last week, reaching 29 weekly frequencies between Panama and the Latin American country.
