Indra, through its subsidiary IndraMind, has allocated an investment of 10 million euros to Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, a Catalan firm specialized in quantum computing, "with the aim of strengthening its positioning in this emerging and high-potential technology" aimed at the development of advanced artificial intelligence (AI), defense, and security solutions, according to both companies' communication this Wednesday.

Founded in 2019, Qilimanjaro is "the only full-stack quantum computing company in Spain": it designs and manufactures its own quantum chips, develops the necessary software and algorithms, and integrates all the elements to build and operate complete quantum computers.

The feature that most distinguishes its technology is the multimodal quantum computing approach (digital and analog), supported by superconducting fluxonium qubits.

"The strategic relevance of its technological capability lies in its great potential to address complex problems in areas such as optimization, simulation, and AI, for which current technologies do not offer efficient solutions," emphasize the leaders of the operation.

Boost to next-generation quantum solutions

Thanks to this alliance, IndraMind will strengthen its capabilities in areas such as physical AI, robotics, and the simulation of complex systems, including phenomena related to energy, new materials, electromagnetism, or the behavior of autonomous systems.

These applications are key to the development of next-generation solutions that will be decisive in sectors such as defense, security, or space, in addition to the protection of critical infrastructures and systems.

At the same time, the capital injection will allow Qilimanjaro to "scale and industrialize its quantum systems," advance in new generations of chips, and expand its manufacturing and deployment capacity. This consolidates a technological capability created in Spain and contributes to strengthening European technological autonomy in quantum computing.

"Quantum computing will mark a decisive leap in the evolution of artificial intelligence and its ability to solve problems of enormous complexity. With this operation, Indra Group reinforces its position in this strategic field and IndraMind expands the capabilities with which to develop sovereign and differential solutions for defense, security, and industry," said the general director of IndraMind, Ignacio Martínez.

For his part, the director of Indra in Catalunya, Enric Blasco, has highlighted the significance of the investment: "It contributes to driving our growth strategy in the territory and our role as a driving company of its innovation ecosystem, supercomputing, and quantum technologies, which have made it one of the main European hubs in capital areas for the activity of our company".

National technological autonomy and financing of Qilimanjaro

With this operation, Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech has closed a first tranche of 19.6 million euros of its 'Series A' funding round. In addition to the contribution from Indra, 9.6 million comes from the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT), dependent on the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function, which thus renews its support for the company.

The company expects to complete the round during the last quarter of the year, with the participation of Avançsa and other investors who are already part of its shareholding.

The CEO of Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, Marta P. Estarellas, has emphasized that "the renewed commitment of the SETT and the entry of Indra are sovereign capital and industrial capital working together to protect, but also accelerate, national technological autonomy".

"With them we join forces to bring quantum computing closer to the strategic sectors of the industry, and so that the quantum being built in Spain continues to grow in Spain," Estarellas added.
