The annualized revenues of the AI 'startup' OpenAI are around 50 billion dollars (44.6 billion euros) as of September, a figure significantly lower than the 70 billion dollars (62.4 billion dollars) that the markets had discounted, according to information published by the "Financial Times".

According to the financial documentation sent to its investors, the company led by Sam Altman expects its annualized revenue to be about 20 billion dollars (17.85 billion euros) below the initial projections, as reported by the data accessed by the "FT".

These economic details emerge at a time when OpenAI's IPO has been postponed until next year, following the debate generated around the potential risks to humanity associated with the development of advanced AI models.

"We just want to settle down and make sure we understand how to operate under this new model, and be able to make some of the decisions we have ahead of us without the pressure of being a newly listed company," Altman said in an interview with Bloomberg, adding that he believes investors will be "patient" regarding the IPO.

In March, OpenAI managed to raise 122 billion dollars (about 105 billion euros) in its latest funding round, led by Amazon, Nvidia, and SoftBank, which gave the 'startup' a valuation of 852 billion dollars (about 740 billion euros).
