The general secretary of the UGT-FICA union section at Airbus Cádiz and member of the negotiation table at SIMA, Edmundo Otero, has proposed to suspend the strike called at the company for several days in order to check if the management "makes a move effectively" in the negotiation process, keeping the option to "activate it indefinitely" if the company's response is "insufficient".
Otero has indicated that this initiative, defended by UGT in the assemblies held on Friday at all centers, seeks to "dismantle the only argument the company uses to avoid ending this negotiation with the strike committee".
Furthermore, he has pointed out that on Monday a proposal with the specific days of suspension will be put to a vote at the centers in Getafe, Cádiz, San Pablo, and Tablada, and has specified that in Albacete "the staff has already decided that it is appropriate to grant these days of strike suspension".
The union leader has emphasized that the purpose of this measure is to "give an opportunity to the negotiation" and to show that "the workers comply in the negotiation" and will not be "the impediment to block absolutely anything". Nevertheless, he has stressed that "the responsibility of all parties must be to reach a final proposal as soon as possible".
In the statement sent by UGT FICA, the union has warned that it will return "to the indefinite strike if in the end this is just another maneuver by Airbus" and has demanded that management, with this gesture, "no longer has excuses to close a conflict" after the staff rejected the previous negotiation platform.
Otero has added that any proposal that comes out of the negotiating table will first be submitted to debate in the assemblies of all centers and, subsequently, to "a binding general referendum in which the staff decides whether the agreement is sufficient or not to close this conflict and return to normality in the company", as agreed by UGT, CGT, and UTIL.
