Obdulia Taboadela, Patricia Otero, Carmen R. Dacosta, and Abel Losada have been the names chosen to lead the Socialist Party candidacies for Congress in A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense, and Pontevedra, respectively. The proposals already have the endorsement of the provincial committees and only need confirmation from the federal leadership.

In A Coruña, and as agreed by the provincial committee, the current deputy delegate of the Government in the province and former congresswoman, Obdulia Taboadela, will be the one to head the list for the Lower House. She will be followed by the councilor of Ferrol Julián Reina as number two; the secretary general of the Socialist Youth, Ana Alvite, in the third position; and the councilor of Porto do Son, Jorge Romero, as number four.

Excluded from the list is the former deputy delegate of the Government María Rivas, who had expressed her intention to lead the candidacy with the support of the mayor of A Coruña, Inés Rey. On this point, sources consulted by Europa Press explain that, in the meeting of the provincial committee, the secretary general, Bernardo Fernández, defended the designation of Taboadela as number 1 for having obtained "double the votes" in the local groups.

In parallel, the list for the Senate from A Coruña will be led by the spokesperson for the PSOE in the Santiago City Council, Guimersino Guinarte, one of the two councilors who remained aligned with the local leadership during the internal crisis experienced in the Galician capital. Following him are the councilor of Culleredo Cristina Pardo and the socialist from Valdoviño Alejandro Antonio García.

In Lugo, the 'number one' for Congress will be Patricia Otero, who in the last legislature occupied the seat in the Lower House left by the leader of the PSdeG, José Ramón Gómez Besteiro, after being elected as a regional deputy. With this, it is intended to continue the work done during this period.

Following Patricia Otero in the candidacy are the councilor in Lugo Jorge Bustos, the secretary general of the Youth in the province, Eva Blanco, and the socialist from As Nogais, Isamel Carcedo.

In the list for the Senate from Lugo, there are no significant changes: César Mogo, very close to the general secretary of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, repeats as the first candidate. Completing the trio are the spokesperson for the PSOE in the Lugo City Council, Ana González Abelleira, and the mayor of Ribas de Sil, Roberto Castro González.

Thus, the former mayor of Lugo, Xosé López Orozco, who in recent days had offered himself as a candidate for the Upper House, is also not included in the socialist candidacy for the 29N. According to sources consulted by Europa Press, it was conveyed in the provincial committee that Mogo had garnered many more supports than Orozco to occupy that position.

An autonomous deputy will lead the list for Congress from Ourense

Among the main novelties in the Galician socialist candidacies, the one from Ourense stands out, which will entail adjustments in the composition of the PSdeG Parliamentary Group in the Pazo do Hórreo.

After the former head of the list for Congress in the general elections of 2023, Margarita Martín, decided not to run again, the "number one" will now be the autonomous deputy Carmen Rodríguez Dacosta.

If elected, her departure from the Parliament of Galicia will require changes in the socialist group, given that the next on the list with which the PSdeG ran in the last regional elections is the former mayor of Rivadavia, Ignacio Gómez.

Following Rodríguez Dacosta, the second place on the candidacy for Congress from Ourense is occupied by the councilor of Amoeiro and regional coordinator of the PSOE, Brian Diz Gonzalez.

Changes are also being introduced in the Senate list for this province: the current senator Rodríguez Villarino will no longer be the head of the list, as the Ourense councilor María Fernández will take that position, while he now appears as number two.

Candidacy for Pontevedra

In Pontevedra, the list for Congress will be led by the government subdelegate, Abel Losada (Vigo), who replaces the current provincial PSOE secretary general, David Regades, who was the head of the list in the 2023 elections.

The candidacy continues, in this order, with Margarita Adrio (Pontevedra), Manuel Pazos (Marín), Tania García (Vilagarcía), Ángel Rivas (Vigo), Digna Rivas (Redondela), and David Alonso (O Porriño).

For her part, at the head of the candidacy for the Lower House from Pontevedra, Carmela Silva Rego (Vigo) repeats, followed by José Cacabelos Rico (O Grove) and Olga Alonso Suárez (Vigo).

The meetings of the executive and the provincial committee held on the afternoon of this Wednesday in Pontevedra were chaired by the provincial deputy secretary general, Paula Fernández, due to the absence, for family reasons, of David Regades.

Final approval on Saturday in the Federal Committee

After the approval of the provincial committees for the candidacies, the lists will now be sent to the Galician direction, which must issue its report before its review on Friday in the Federal List Commission. This will be the previous step to the final ratification by the Federal Committee of the PSOE, convened for next Saturday, October 17.
