The general secretary of the Spanish Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM), Víctor Pedrera, has announced that the union's leadership has decided to "intensify the pressure" against the Draft Law of the Framework Statute and that this Thursday he will present to the Strike Committee the call for "indefinite and permanent" strikes, the implementation of which is expected for mid-October, pending the exact start date being finalized.

Pedrera made this announcement on Tuesday at a press conference, where he specified that the Strike Committee will meet this Thursday at 5:00 PM to analyze this proposal. CESM hopes that the initiative will receive support from the other union organizations participating in the conflict, including the Andalusian Medical Union (SMA), Doctors of Catalonia (MC), the Association of Physicians and Higher Graduates of Madrid (AMYTS), the Medical Union of Euskadi (SME), and the Independent Faculty Union of Galicia (O'MEGA).

The union leader emphasized that the confrontation of the medical collective with the regulation remains open, despite the fact that the draft law continues its course in the Congress of Deputies after the green light from the Council of Ministers. In his opinion, this legislative advance represents a change of political interlocutor, but does not alter the core of the claims made by the profession.

"The conflict is not over. We doctors have not given up any of our demands, nor has CESM (...), what will change is our strategy because the interlocutor has changed," Pedrera emphasized, addressing the Minister of Health, Mónica García, and warning afterwards that there will be "more pressure" in the parliamentary, institutional, legal, and European spheres.
