Eight people have lost their lives this Thursday after a small plane crashed in the southwest corner of Alaska, in the United States. The causes of the accident remain under investigation, according to state and local authorities, who have confirmed that there were no survivors among the occupants.

The crashed aircraft, a Cessna 411, went down around noon local time (early Friday in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands), shortly after taking off from Anchorage heading to a long-range radar located at Cape Newenham, on the coast of the Bering Sea, integrated into the United States Northern Aerospace Defense Command.

For now, the Alaska Command of the United States Northern Command has been the agency that has officially communicated the death of all occupants of the plane, without providing their identities or clarifying the details of the trip they were undertaking.

The commander of the Alaska Command, General Robert Davis, has lamented "a devastating loss for the military family" and described the deceased as "dedicated professionals who were carrying out a vital mission in a demanding environment."

"Our absolute priority at this moment is to provide unconditional support to their families, friends, and colleagues during this very difficult time. We are deeply grateful for the swift and tireless response of our search and rescue professionals," he concluded.
