At least one person has lost their life and six others have been injured this Tuesday in the city of Negele Borana, in southern Ethiopia, after shots fired by Federal Police officers. For now, the police force has not issued any official statement about what happened, although a police source, who requested to remain anonymous, has confirmed the event to national media and indicated that an investigation has been launched.

Residents of the Goobicha neighborhood, where the events occurred, have told the Ethiopian newspaper "Addis Standard" that a 17-year-old young man identified as "Murtii Isaaq Alii Duubaa" died on the spot as a result of the gunfire.

According to these testimonies, at least six people have been injured, of which four have had to be referred to the local general hospital, located in the Oromia region. Among the injured transferred are a 60-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman.

The Federal Police officers, who were supposedly participating in an operation against informal traders, would have entered the neighborhood around 7:00 in the morning (local time). During the operation, they searched several homes and loaded various items into a vehicle before opening fire when several neighbors demanded the return of their belongings.
