A federal judge in Mexico has imposed this Saturday the measure of preventive prison on Rear Admiral Fernando Farías Laguna, who was extradited from Argentina and is accused of alleged organized crime and fuel smuggling or huachicol.

According to Mexican media, Farías Laguna, his brother Roberto, and 14 other implicated individuals must remain detained at the Federal Center for Social Rehabilitation (Cefereso) No. 1 in Almoloya de Juárez, in the State of Mexico, while judicial proceedings advance.

Rear Admiral Fernando Farías Laguna had been arrested in Argentina since April 23, accused of leading a network dedicated to hydrocarbon smuggling, for which there was also a red notice from Interpol against him.

The former member of the Mexican Navy was transferred the previous Thursday to Mexican territory, following the formal extradition request submitted by the Government of Mexico.
