The Russian government expressed this Saturday its satisfaction with the decision of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to halt the implementation of the latest package of sanctions against Russia, known as the Graham Law, despite having been recently approved by the U.S. Congress.
"The suspension of some of the measures of the Graham Law represents an important and truly historic moment," said the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and Russian negotiator Kiril Dimitriev, when evaluating the decision of the White House.
The high-ranking Russian official emphasized that the legislative text "suffered fundamental and profoundly negative changes" after the death of Senator Lindsey Graham, the main promoter of the initiative, to the point that it could have led to the "complete paralysis of economic cooperation between Russia and the United States." In his opinion, this scenario would have generated "serious damage to the economy of the United States and to global markets."
Dimitriev defended that the economic relationship between both countries is beneficial for both powers, reinforces economic stability on a global scale, and "lays the foundations for building trust and achieving lasting peace."
"Instead of sanctions and confrontation, we need dialogue, cooperation for mutual benefit, and shared responsibility for global stability," he concluded in a message disseminated on social media.
