The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, declared this Tuesday that Moscow is working hand in hand with Pyongyang to promote a "new and fairer world order," in a context where both nations are intensifying their collaboration and consolidating what they consider a strategic alliance.

In a letter sent to the North Korean Foreign Minister, Choe Son Hui, Lavrov reiterated the Russian government's willingness to continue deepening cooperation in "all areas" and emphasized the intention to "contribute to regional and international security," according to information released by the North Korean state agency KCNA.

The letter emphasizes that the two countries are working together for a world "based on multipolarity, genuine equality, and national interests" and advocates for the adoption of measures that are oriented "for the benefit of the peoples of both countries."

"The participation of military personnel from the North Korean Army in operations to expel the Ukrainian Nazi clique and foreign mercenaries from Kursk (Russian region) is clear evidence of the tradition of combative friendship forged by heroic previous generations," Lavrov pointed out, referring to the sending of North Korean troops to Russian territory in the context of the invasion of Ukraine.

Estimates suggest that the Asian country transferred around 14,000 soldiers to Russia at the end of 2024 to support Moscow against a large-scale Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region. Later, Russian President Vladimir Putin proclaimed victory in May 2025 and publicly expressed his gratitude to Pyongyang for the support provided.
