The highest authority of the Iranian Judiciary, Golamhosein Mohseni Ejei, has urged this Saturday the allied countries of the BRICS group to promote concrete mechanisms to bring to justice those responsible for war crimes committed on Iranian territory in the context of the offensive initiated last February by the United States along with Israel.
In an intervention recorded by the state chain IRIB during a summit of the bloc, Mohseni Ejei emphasized that the partners of the group "Should, first of all, condemn the violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran in accordance with international norms, especially the United Nations Charter, and adopt the necessary measures to prevent the illegal actions of the aggressors."
The judicial leader has insisted that those responsible for the "war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the two wars of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran" must be prosecuted applying "the principle of universal jurisdiction," so that they do not go unpunished regardless of where the abuses were committed.
In this regard, he warned that "Our judicial systems and legal institutions must not remain indifferent to the violation of fundamental human rights, the murder of civilians, the forced displacement of nations, damage to infrastructure, and the impunity of the perpetrators of international crimes," demanding a coordinated response from the member states.
Tehran has maintained for months that numerous attacks carried out by U.S. forces in the context of the current conflict fit the classification of war crimes, and has requested that these incidents be examined by the UN Security Council. Among the most notable episodes mentioned are the attack on a school in Minab, the bombing of a wedding procession in the town of Kuhestak, and the impacts against Iranian commercial vessels transiting through the Strait of Hormuz.
