At least eight young students have lost their lives this Saturday in a serious traffic accident in the state of Kerala, in southwestern India, after the tourist vehicle they were traveling in collided with a parked truck, according to local authorities.
The accident occurred around 11:40 PM (local time) on Friday and, according to official information, the eight occupants of the car were engineering students traveling from Guruvayur to Kondungallur.
The truck was parked near a detour on the national road when the collision occurred. The impact was so severe that the car was completely destroyed and the front ended up embedded under the heavy vehicle.
After hearing the loud crash, neighbors in the area and emergency teams immediately rushed to the accident site. To access the victims, trapped among the wreckage of the car, it was necessary to dismantle part of the bodywork. Despite the quick action of the rescue services, the eight young people died at the scene due to the extreme severity of their injuries, local media have reported.
The victims, all young people from the state of Tamil Nadu, did not survive the violent impact. Authorities have managed to identify five of the deceased so far, while efforts continue to determine the identity of the other three people who were traveling in the vehicle.
Additionally, the Police have informed the families of the young people already identified, and initial investigations suggest that they were on vacation in Kerala. The Kaipamangalam police station has concluded the initial investigation and has transferred the bodies to the morgue of the Thrissur University Hospital.
