At least two police agents have lost their lives this Monday in an attack carried out by unidentified armed individuals against a patrol in the Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan, in the southeast of the country and bordering Pakistan, as confirmed by the authorities.

The aggression, in which a third police officer has been injured, was directed against a patrol in Bampur County, according to the Iranian public television network, IRIB. The outlet has indicated that the security forces have launched a broad operation in the area to locate the perpetrators, with no organization having claimed responsibility so far.

This incident occurs a few days after the death of a member of the Revolutionary Guard in a bombing in Sistan and Baluchestan, a region where several armed groups operate, including Jaish al Adl, created in 2012 by former members of an extremist organization in the province, where the population of the Baluch minority resides -- predominantly Sunni Muslim --.

Iran has repeatedly demanded that Pakistan -- which also suffers actions from Baluch separatist groups in the west of its territory -- strengthen its collaboration to combat these organizations, as those responsible for several attacks have managed to escape afterwards by crossing the common border.
