The president of China, Xi Jinping, has finished annihilating the political career of his most significant military advisor, the now former vice chairman of the Central Military Commission Zhang Youxia, by also losing his seat in the Chinese People's Assembly, the national legislative body.
The Communist Party of China announced last January the dismissal of Zhang from the command hierarchy of the Armed Forces and now the official agency Xinhua has confirmed that the general has also been removed from Parliament. The military man is under investigation for "serious violations of discipline and law," the term used by the Chinese Government to refer to alleged cases of corruption.
The same decision has been made with Zhong Shaojun, until now political commissioner of the National Defense University of Beijing, the main academic institution of the Chinese Army.
Still pending the public release of the results of these internal investigations, which are usually revealed in plenary sessions like the one scheduled for October, the purges in the Assembly have continued with the expulsion of the former commander of the already dissolved Strategic Support Force, Ju Qiansheng, as well as the former head of the Western Command of the Army, Zhao Zongqi.
