The Unified Association of Spanish Military (AUME) has requested this Friday from the Ministry of Defense that an economic compensation be recognized for the military deployed in Ceuta after the massive entry of immigrants from Morocco, in terms analogous to the gratification approved by the Operational Deputy Directorate of the National Police for the agents sent to the autonomous city.

In its request, AUME claims for the military personnel assigned in Ceuta, both permanently and for those who were sent after the migration crisis at the end of July, an economic compensation "equivalent" to that of the police. The association argues that this equalization is "just" because the role of the Armed Forces in defending territorial integrity, in border control, and in supporting state institutions in Ceuta is "essential".

"Their work is carried out under conditions of high operational demand, far from their units of origin in many cases and with the same spirit of service as the rest of the bodies and security forces," the organization indicated in a statement, emphasizing the additional effort that this type of deployment entails.

At the same time, AUME urges the department headed by Margarita Robles to "avoid" any "unjustified" differential treatment among the different bodies that have intervened to guarantee security and maintain order in Ceuta," insisting on the need for a homogeneous criterion in compensations.

The association has emphasized that it trusts in receiving a "quick and positive" response from the minister regarding this demand during her appearance this Tuesday before the Defense Commission of Congress, where they hope the issue will be addressed specifically.
