The Spanish Government has "strongly" condemned the "indiscriminate attacks" perpetrated by the Houthis against the forces of the Yemeni Government and against various civilian infrastructures located in towns in Saudi Arabia. In its message, the Executive also conveys its desire for a "rapid recovery" for the injured and expresses its "solidarity" with the authorities of both affected countries.
In the statement released this Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government also expresses "deep concern" over the growing instability generated by the actions of the Houthis in the region, which would be "threatening both Saudi sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as free navigation in the Red Sea."
"In light of the escalation of violence in Yemen, the Government of Spain expresses its deep concern" and "its support for the Presidential Leadership Council" for "its efforts to ensure the stability of the country against attempts of interference in internal affairs, in violation of Security Council resolution 2216," the Executive has stated in the official note.
In this context, the Government calls for an immediate cessation of the attacks and of the "violations" of "international law" with the aim of putting an end to "the escalation of violence" in the Middle East. It also encourages all parties involved to resume dialogue as soon as possible and return to the negotiating table to "move towards a lasting and sustainable solution" to the conflict.
