More than a hundred residents of Ceuta have taken to the streets again this Saturday in a citizen mobilization that has traversed several enclaves of the city and that has had as its main act a "peaceful sit-in" at the roundabout linking the Tarajal border with the ascent to Loma Colmenar. There, the attendees have demanded "unity" in the face of the situation the city is going through after the massive entry of migrants on July 30.
The protest, called spontaneously through social networks and messaging groups, began around 6:30 PM at the Murallas Reales and continued through the Polígono Virgen de África and the N-352 road until reaching the roundabout near the border crossing.
At that point, the participants sat down on the roadway in what they described as a symbolic gesture "in sign of unity and claim." After the sit-in, they observed a minute of silence for "the suffering of the Ceuta society" and for the situation that, they have denounced, the city has been enduring for a month.
Throughout the route, slogans already common in the protests of recent weeks were chanted, such as "Ceuta is not for sale, it is defended," "Ceuta united will never be defeated," or "A caballa never surrenders," in addition to critical slogans directed at the central Government.
The march continued afterwards to Loma Colmenar, where the demonstrators showed their support for the residents of the neighborhood, mobilized several times since a provisional reception resource for migrants began to be set up in a nearby area.
The neighbors maintain their complaints about the repercussions associated with the presence of this device and the concentration of people in its surroundings. Alongside the migrants already housed inside the facilities, at least a hundred have been camping outside for days, waiting to be able to enter the premises.
Among the concerns expressed by the residents is the proximity of a nursery located very close to the resource, which is scheduled to open next September.
A group of attendees has decided to extend the mobilization to the Government Delegation, where they reiterated their request for the resignation of the Government delegate in Ceuta and demanded greater involvement from the central Executive to address the consequences of the migration crisis.
The concentration has taken place without incidents and with a clearly peaceful profile, in contrast to the disturbances recorded in other calls held in recent weeks.
