The Congressional commission responsible for analyzing the management of the deadly flood that caused 232 deaths in Valencia in October 2024 intends to summon former president of the Valencian Generalitat Carlos Mazón again this month, according to what Compromís deputy integrated in the Mixed Group, Àgueda Micó, communicated this Tuesday.
The commission's table has scheduled a meeting for this Wednesday in which the upcoming appearances will be defined and scheduled, which, according to parliamentary sources cited by Europa Press, would begin the week of September 21.
According to what Micó has advanced in a press conference, Mazón will be the first to intervene, after having already appeared before this body on November 17. In her view, it is "essential" that he returns to provide explanations "because he was totally absent on the day of the flood and was the one who had the obligation to warn the Valencians of what could happen."
She also emphasized that Mazón, who continues to have parliamentary immunity due to his seat in the Valencian Cortes, eventually agreed to send a letter to the judge who is instructing the case regarding the management of the tragedy, in which he denied any type of responsibility and also exonerated his former Chief of Staff, José Manuel Cuenca.
Micó requests another appearance from Mompó
Micó has also expressed her intention to call the president of the Valencia Provincial Council, the also leader of the PP Vicente Mompó, who already answered questions from the commission members on November 24 and who, according to the deputy, "lied to their faces."
The Compromís representative broke with Sumar after the PSOE initially refused to include the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in the list of those appearing. Finally, the socialists agreed to incorporate the head of the Executive into the list, although with the provision that he would close the round of interventions.
However, Micó maintains that members of the Executive, "including Sánchez," must begin to parade through the commission before two years have passed since the flood, on October 29.
"Things have been done well, such as containing the health crisis at that time, but things have also been done very poorly, such as rebuilding, for example, entirely in the same places where there were floods. We cannot reach November without the main ministers and the president of the Government having appeared," she defended.
