The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) has agreed to postpone the celebration of its XXII Congress and finally set it for the days 20 and 21 of February, with the aim of concentrating all its efforts on the "success of the general strike" called for the next 11th of November "and of the Broad Front" prior to the general elections on the 29th of November.
The decision was made in an urgent and extraordinary meeting held this Monday "in light of the unforeseen situation" due to the call for the elections and the general strike for housing on the 11th of November, which the PCE has defined as "a challenge to achieve a qualitative advance in the class struggle alongside the organized labor and union movement," as stated in a statement.
In this regard, the party has emphasized that the "mission" of the PCE is "to actively participate and try to lead the class struggle" which, in its view, "is at a peak moment of confrontation between the forces of capital and those of the working class"; a struggle that, currently, is expressed especially in "the fight against housing speculation and rent-seeking."
Furthermore, they emphasize their commitment to "the construction of an antifascist historical bloc that prevents a political and social majority of the right and the far right that would be extremely harmful to the working class."
For this reason, the Central Committee has chosen to delay the congress, considering that holding it on the initially planned dates would be "irresponsible" as it would imply "neglecting the political priorities" of the party and "immersing" the PCE "in an internal work detached from political reality and away from the needs of the working class."
The already scheduled meetings will be maintained, but reoriented towards the preparation of the general strike and the pre-campaign and campaign for the elections on the 29N. The territorial conferences will resume on December 9, which will have a deadline until January 24, 2027.
