The PP deputy in the General Board of the Principality of Asturias (JGPA), Gloria García, denounced this Friday the "management incapacity" of the Ministry of Education and the Infrastructure Service to resolve and execute the replacement of the roof of the San Pedro de Piñeres school, in Aller.

García, who traveled to the center accompanied by the popular councilor in the Aller City Council, Héctor Teijeiro, and several families, recalled that this is the fourth time the PP has gone to this school to demand a solution to a problem that, as she emphasized, has been dragging on for more than two years.

"We have been dealing with the same problem for all this time: the replacement of the roof, affected by asbestos," García stated, who recalled that during this time the PP has already brought this issue to the Education Commission in the General Board on two occasions.

The Education spokesperson detailed that, in 2024, in response to the questions raised by the PP, the Ministry denied that such a problem existed and did not foresee the immediate replacement of the roof. She also pointed out that in that same year, with the occupational risk prevention report already completed, the then Minister of Education, Lydia Espina, denied that there was a health risk and assured that the roof would be changed throughout the legislature.

"It seemed that, finally, the work was going to be done this summer, for the start of the school year. However, we find that neither was it done, nor will it be done this year," lamented the parliamentarian.

According to García, the delay is due to the fact that the bidding announcement is dated June 12 of this year, the contract has not yet been signed nor has the minutes of the replanning been formalized, and the project contemplates an execution period of two months.

"And all this, with a procedure that the Ministry itself classified as urgent for the safety of students and staff, taking into account the condition of the roof, and warning that the work should be carried out during the summer period, since, otherwise, classes would have to be suspended," she emphasized.

Given this situation, the deputy believes that the intervention will have to be postponed until the summer of 2027. "We are facing an absolute lack of planning and capacity to respond to a problem that the educational community has been demanding for more than two years," García criticized, who demanded explanations from the Ministry.
