The Vice President of the Principality, Gimena Llamedo, emphasized this Saturday in Piloña, during the celebration of the Fiesta del Asturcón, that protecting this native breed involves "preserving part of our identity" and ensuring that this legacy is passed on to future generations.
"Talking about asturcones is talking about Asturias, it is talking about our ancestors and, without a doubt, it is talking about our history and I am also sure that it is talking about the future," Llamedo indicated.
The Vice President highlighted the need to know and live this tradition, emphasizing the value of the festival in a "unique setting," the scene of various activities related to training and the conservation of the breed.
Llamedo reiterated that the regional government will continue to support the promotion and survival of the asturcón, as well as breeding programs. "Defending the asturcón is precisely preserving part of our identity and ensuring that this heritage reaches future generations," she pointed out.
She also recalled her presence in 2019, along with the Conserving Association of the Asturcón (ACAS) and the City Council, in the efforts that allowed the celebration to obtain the recognition of Festival of National Tourist Interest. That same year, she was awarded the Asturcón de Oro, a distinction that, she has stated, she keeps "with great pride."
Finally, Llamedo wanted to highlight the effort made over decades by the people and groups involved in the defense of the asturcón, convinced that their dedication and organizational capacity have been key to keeping this "so ours" breed and "symbol of Asturias" alive.
