The president of CHA, Jorge Pueyo, has censured this Tuesday, October 6, the head of the Aragonese Executive, Jorge Azcón, for "feeding a discourse of democratic distrust."
Pueyo's criticisms come after Jorge Azcón stated that on the upcoming November 29, the day of the general elections, his children, who are studying outside of Aragon, will travel to Zaragoza to vote in person.
The Aragonese president made these statements to the media during an event held in Pastriz (Zaragoza), when asked if he shares the doubts about voting by mail expressed by the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who has asked "everyone not to even think about voting by mail."
According to Pueyo, these words from Azcón "contribute to generating unjustified distrust about the electoral procedure."
He has described it as "especially concerning" that "whoever holds the Presidency of Aragon participates in a discourse that puts under suspicion a way of exercising the right to vote that thousands of citizens legitimately use."
The leader of CHA has directly questioned Azcón to know "if Vox forces him to now question voting by mail or if the PP already assumes as its own the destabilizing discourse of the far right or of Ayuso, both are the same."
"Azcón has to decide whether he acts as president of Aragon or if he continues to act as a leader of the PP trapped in the permanent competition with Vox," Pueyo has stated, urging the regional president to "stop using institutions to feed suspicions about democratic rules."
The CHA leader has emphasized that "voting by mail is a legal mode of electoral participation and must receive exactly the same institutional respect as in-person voting."
For CHA, "transferring any suspicion about its legitimacy without providing any data to support it contributes to a dynamic of distrust that harms democracy itself."
Pueyo has demanded that Azcón "abandon this strategy of permanently looking towards Vox and adopting its political frameworks" and has insisted that the obligation of a president is "to guarantee that all citizens can exercise their rights normally, wherever they live and wherever they are."
In his final assessment, Pueyo has warned that "the problem arises because from certain political positions there is an intention to generate doubts about the democratic system itself. If we thought that Azcón could not fall, politically, any lower, he has shown that he is always capable of surpassing himself," the president of CHA has emphasized.
