The magistrate of court 1 of the Instruction Section of the Court of Instance of Murcia, on duty, has ordered the provisional imprisonment, communicated and without the possibility of bail for the man arrested for the run-over of five cyclists recorded last Sunday on the RM-F18 road, as it passes through the Murcian district of Cañadas de San Pedro.

Against this man, a criminal procedure has been opened in which he is attributed with crimes of driving under the influence of narcotic substances, two crimes of reckless injury in conjunction with a crime against road safety, attempted homicide, and abandonment of the accident scene, as detailed by the Superior Court of Justice of Murcia (TSJMU).

The investigated individual, 42 years old, was enjoying a prison permit while serving a sentence for a willful homicide committed in 2013 and tested positive in the indicative drug use test.

According to the information provided by the Civil Guard, the incident occurred around 11:00 hours on October 4, in the stretch that connects the Pedrera reservoir with Cañadas de San Pedro. After a first impact against the group formed by five women, residents of Murcia, the driver made a U-turn about 200 meters away and returned with the supposed intention of hitting them again.

The cyclists were forced to jump into the ditch to avoid a second run-over and to be able to assist their companions who had been left lying on the roadway.

As a result of the initial run-over, three of the women required hospital attention: two of them with serious injuries and a third with a mild prognosis. After the second attempt to run them over, the driver abandoned the vehicle about two kilometers from the scene and fled on foot through the mountainous area, until he was finally located and arrested by the agents.
