The Government plans to approve this Tuesday in the Council of Ministers the urgent processing of two royal decrees with which the creation of 500 new positions for judges and 200 for the public prosecutor's career is anticipated, with a horizon in 2027.
Sources from the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice, and Relations with the Cortes cited by Europa Press indicate that these 700 new positions will imply an increase of 7.8% in the judicial staff and 6.6% in the staff of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Of the total of 500 judicial positions, 172 will go to the Civil jurisdiction, 109 to the Social, and 69 to the Criminal, according to data provided by the Ministry. Likewise, 87 positions will be enabled for mixed bodies, 42 for territorial assignment, 11 for bodies dealing with Violence against Women, six for Violence against Children and Adolescents, eight for new presidencies of trial courts, and four positions for the National Court.
Andalusia and Catalonia will be the autonomous communities that will concentrate the most new positions for judges, with 94 each. Next is the Community of Madrid, with 74, and then the Valencian Community, with 53.
Regarding the new positions in the public prosecutor's career, Catalonia will add 47, Andalusia 31, and Madrid 26. Justice also details that the Canary Islands will register the highest percentage increase of prosecutors, with 8.9%.
This decision represents a new expansion of the judicial and prosecutorial staff, which adds to the one announced last July by the Minister of Justice, Félix Bolaños, when he announced the creation of another 700 positions that must be operational before December 31 of this 2026.
