The president of the Autonomous City of Melilla, Juan José Imbroda (PP), has urged this Tuesday the Melilla population to massively take to the streets this Wednesday, October 14, to participate in the reception of Their Majesties the Kings of Spain, Felipe VI and Letizia, during their official stay in the city.

After the inauguration of the remodeling works of the Plaza de España in Melilla, Imbroda has emphasized before the media that "this visit will mark a before and after for Melilla." In his opinion, the presence of the Kings represents an opportunity to reinforce confidence in the city and move towards a stage of greater stability and hope.

"This Wednesday, all Melillans let’s go out to the streets to welcome our Kings!" has demanded the Melilla leader, who has reiterated the importance of citizens attending the Plaza de España "to welcome the monarchs and show them the affection of the Melilla population."

In the same vein, the president has expressly requested the involvement of the General State Administration (AGE) and the business fabric of the city to facilitate attendance at this event. "Once again, I ask the AGE and all the business community to make it easier so that everyone can go to the Plaza de España. Let no one be left without being able to go!" he has pointed out.

Imbroda believes that the visit of Felipe VI and Letizia "constitutes an event of special significance for Melilla," both for its institutional dimension and for the prospects that, in his opinion, it can open for the future of the autonomous city.

"This is the key that opens the door to a better Melilla. I am very clear about that," he has stated, highlighting that the day is shaping up to be a "very important" turning point for the future of Melilla.

The head of the local Executive has stressed "the historical dimension of the visit" and the convenience of the citizenry participating in a majority in the reception, "turning the Plaza de España into the main stage of the meeting between the Crown and the Melillans."

The call for citizen mobilization occurs on the eve of a date that the Melilla government qualifies as of special institutional relevance, upon receiving Felipe VI and Letizia in a visit that the local Executive interprets as "an opportunity to project the city and convey a message of stability, confidence, and future expectations," in the words of Juan José Imbroda.

New image of the Plaza de España

The president has made these statements after the inauguration of the comprehensive remodeling of Plaza de España, a work that has been accelerated coinciding with the arrival of Kings Felipe VI and Letizia. Imbroda has assured that the neighbors "can feel proud" of an action that has renewed this emblematic urban space with an investment of 3.8 million euros.

He has highlighted the magnitude of the intervention, which he has defined as the most relevant in the centenary history of the plaza, with works that have covered more than 8,000 square meters, both in surface and in the underground infrastructures.

The project has contemplated the updating of various elements to modernize the environment and improve its appearance, from the lighting and green areas to the urban furniture and the central fountain. The pedestrian axes and the flooring have also been renewed, whose design incorporates a nod to the Flag of Spain.

Among the actions, the installation of a booth inspired by the original stands out, with the intention of preserving a reference to the historical configuration of the plaza within its new image.

Imbroda has thus claimed an intervention that transforms one of the most symbolic spaces of Melilla, both for its size and for its urban and institutional weight, and that aspires to become the great stage for the reception of the Kings.
