The man who this Saturday set himself on fire in front of the City of Justice of Córdoba has died in the Intensive Care Unit of the Reina Sofía Hospital, according to health sources.
The events occurred shortly before 2:00 PM, when the man was in the vicinity of the courts. For reasons that are still unknown, he would have chained himself to a gasoline can and subsequently set himself on fire.
The emergency services quickly arrived at the scene and initially attended to the victim in the vicinity of the judicial building. After stabilizing him, he was transferred to the Reina Sofía Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU. Finally, the serious injuries sustained have caused his death.
Broke one of the access doors to the courts
During the incident, the man also broke the first glass door that provides access to the City of Justice, in the area where the Civil Guard agents responsible for controlling entry to the building are located.
He then attempted to break a second door, although he was unable to do so. The fire caused a significant accumulation of smoke inside the facilities, which forced the activation of a large emergency response.
Large deployment of Police and Firefighters
Numerous members of the National Police and Local Police were dispatched to the scene, along with members of the Fire Prevention, Extinction, and Rescue Service (Speis) of Córdoba.
The emergency teams worked to extinguish the flames, ventilate the areas affected by smoke, and ensure the safety of the judicial building.
For the moment, the reasons that led the man to carry out this incident are unknown. The specific circumstances of what happened will need to be clarified while the City of Justice returns to normal after an incident that has ended with the death of the affected individual.
