The General Index of Industrial Production (IPI) advanced by 1.6% in August compared to the same month in 2025, which represents a moderation of 1.2 points compared to the growth recorded in July, according to data released this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

With this year-on-year increase in August, the weakest since last May (+0.4%), industrial activity has now accumulated six consecutive months of increases.

The positive performance in August was supported by the rebounds in energy (+4.5%), intermediate goods (+1.9%), and capital goods (+1.2%). Conversely, durable consumer goods reduced their production by 6.8% year-on-year, and non-durable consumer goods cut theirs by 0.9%.

If seasonal and calendar effects are eliminated, industrial production recorded a year-on-year advance of 1.5% in August, one point less than in July. With this data, the seasonally adjusted series also chains six consecutive months of year-on-year increases.

In monthly comparison (August over July) and in the series corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, industrial production fell by 0.7%, compared to the increase of 0.6% observed in July.

By activity branches, durable consumer goods was the only group that showed a monthly production growth (+1%), while energy experienced the most pronounced adjustment, with a decline of 2%.
