Lufthansa Group has launched this Wednesday the Starlink wifi connection on an Airbus A320neo that took off from Frankfurt (Germany) heading to Rome (Italy), marking the start of the implementation of this technology in the airline, the company has informed in a statement.

Before the end of the year, up to 10 additional aircraft from the A320 family, operated by both Lufthansa and Lufthansa City Airlines, will incorporate this connectivity system, whose installation will mainly take place at Lufthansa Technik facilities in Berlin (Germany).

The plan of the German holding company contemplates that other airlines in the group will also integrate Starlink into their aircraft, with the goal that by 2029 the entire fleet, composed of 850 aircraft, will be equipped with this onboard internet service.

Thanks to this wifi network, passengers can browse the internet and consult additional information about destinations, the group, and a wide selection of electronic magazines. In a later phase, access to data and services specifically linked to each flight will also be enabled.

Access to this new service will be free for all "Miles & More" customers and for Travel ID users, regardless of the class in which they travel.

The Lufthansa Group project is part of the group's strong investment program in renewing its fleet, as well as in product and service innovations throughout the travel experience. "With Starlink, we will offer the fastest connectivity from takeoff to landing, over oceans and deserts, on both short and long-haul routes," highlighted the CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, Jens Ritter.

Starlink is already being deployed in several international airlines, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, the IAG group, Singapore Airlines, and Wizz Air, as well as American companies like American Airlines.
