The fiscal deficit of Peru stood at 1% of GDP in August, thus repeating the same level observed in July, according to the figures published by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).
According to the issuing body, the imbalance between revenues and expenditures of the non-financial public sector reached 4.076 billion soles (1.061 billion euros) in the eighth month of the year, an amount slightly higher than that recorded a year earlier.
The BCRP detailed that this increase was mainly due to higher interest payments on debt and an increase in non-financial expenditures. However, higher tax collection allowed for a partial offset of this effect.
In this way, the Peruvian fiscal deficit continues its trajectory of reduction and again marks the same record as in June 2022, when it also closed at 1% of GDP.
Between January and August, the public accounts of Peru accumulated a fiscal surplus of 5.546 billion soles (1.444 billion euros), in contrast to the deficit of 7.323 billion soles (1.907 billion euros) recorded in the same period of 2025.
