The general secretary of the Spanish Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM), Víctor Pedrera, has demanded this Tuesday that the doctors in Ceuta have the same rights as their colleagues from the rest of the country, in order to put a stop to the situation of "ultra", "mega", "hyper" or "macro" difficult coverage that the autonomous city has been suffering since the massive entry of migrant people last July.
In an appearance before the media to report on the latest decisions of the CESM Executive Committee, he insisted that "working conditions must be urgently improved and staff must be provided with the sufficient number" to avoid the "laboriousness" that is experienced in the Ceuta health system. "Fewer and fewer people want to go, and those who are there are in worse conditions," he emphasized.
To support the professionals in the city, Pedrera announced that the CESM Executive Committee will travel on Friday, October 23, to Ceuta to hold its next meeting there. He specified that this meeting does not respond solely to the increase in healthcare pressure due to the arrival of migrants, but that the health situation in general is "painful," recalling that it is "at least" the fourth occasion that the union body meets in the autonomous city.
"We will do what we can to visualize the situation they are going through and that once and for all the Ministry of Health and INGESA (...) take action on the matter," he emphasized, while denouncing that the National Institute of Health Management has not responded to any of the four meeting requests made by CESM and has described the actions of the ministerial department as "painful."
