The commissioner of the PERTE for Vanguard Health, Raquel Yotti, has pointed out that, five years after its launch following Covid, the Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) for Vanguard Health has already developed more than 60 actions.
During her speech at the VII Health Observatory of EL ESPAÑOL and Invertia, she explained that, during this period, the PERTE for Vanguard Health has promoted different measures in the form of grants, loans, and investments, aimed at strengthening technology-based companies and favoring the creation and consolidation of startups in the healthcare field.
Yotti has noted that this joint work is translating into concrete results in precision medicine —for example, in the development of genomic biomarkers—, in new advanced therapies, and in the intensive use of health data through network infrastructures such as CERTERA (State Consortium in Network for the Development of Advanced Therapy Medicines), in addition to the deployment of the Digital Health Strategy.
In the current scenario, she emphasized, reindustrialization and strategic autonomy have become priority objectives for the European Union. In this regard, she highlighted that Spain starts from a favorable position thanks to a consolidated pharmaceutical industry and a biotechnological ecosystem with numerous highly specialized startups. Nevertheless, Yotti insisted on the importance of attracting "patient capital" and having public instruments capable of energizing and supporting private investment.
Among the most relevant mechanisms, she highlighted the European Med4Cure program (an important project of common European interest in health), integrated into the PERTE, which finances the first industrial deployment and helps position Spain in a competitive stance within the European environment. "It has allowed us to collaborate with other countries. And I believe it has positioned us in a better status within the ecosystem to tackle European challenges," Yotti specified.
