The Secretary General of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, stated this Monday that his party is "ready" to participate in potential elections in the country. Following that, he criticized the opposition, which he accuses of acting based on "how they feel, one day they call for elections and another day they say (that) they should not vote."
"We are ready, we have always been ready. Now, those who today want elections, when called to elections, say they are not ready or that they are not going to participate because, deep down, they do not want elections. Deep down they do not respect elections," Cabello stated at a press conference, where he added that the opposition "recognizes when they win," but "when they lose they do not recognize anyone."
In the same appearance, boasting of the "crushing majority" that, according to him, the PSUV has, the also Minister of Popular Power for Interior Relations, Justice and Peace insisted that, depending on "how they feel," political opponents one day "call for elections" and another day claim that "they should not vote."
"That is not our fault. There is no political direction there," argued the Chavista leader, who then defended that his party is "very respectful" of the decisions made by the "only" National Assembly that, he emphasized, exists in Venezuela: "the one presided over by Jorge Rodríguez, elected (...) in 2025, full, current, and installed."
At the end of his speech, Cabello reiterated that "the day that corresponds" the PSUV will act "as a single united block" and that "the day it is," his party will be "ready to win" because, he emphasized, they do not like "silver medals" but "winning."
Last week, the acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, also referred to the holding of elections, assuring that "there will be an electoral process" in the country, although she specified that it will be when the process is "ready."
In similar terms, the head of the White House, Donald Trump, expressed himself when asked about the Venezuelan situation. The U.S. president then indicated that, for now, he did not consider Venezuela ready for elections, although he predicted that it would be "soon."
