At least eight people have been injured in a multiple hit-and-run that occurred on a pedestrian street in the German town of Hofgeismar, located in the center of the country, in an incident in which the driver, 68 years old, also had to be evacuated to a hospital in critical condition.

According to the information provided by the Nordhessen Police, around 10:30 in the morning, a private car sped down a pedestrian street in Hofgeismar, hitting several pedestrians before crashing into the wall of a building belonging to a shopping center.

"According to the current state of the investigation, eight people were injured in the pedestrian area in the form of scrapes, bruises, or shock, of which four were preventively transferred to hospitals," said the Police, which for now rules out that there are serious injuries among those affected.

Eyewitnesses of the incident have indicated that the driver of the vehicle appeared to be suffering medical problems at the time of the hit-and-run. Some pedestrians provided first aid inside the car until the arrival of emergency services, which subsequently transported him to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
