At least three people have lost their lives and another 21 have been injured in the last hours after a new Russian missile attack against Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. Part of the projectiles hit a nine-story residential block located in the Desnianski district, where two of the victims died, and another directly hit the CHPP-4 thermal power plant, one of the essential energy facilities for the city's supply.

The mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, explained on his social networks that among the injured is an eight-year-old minor and that emergency teams have had to transfer 16 people to different hospitals, four of them in serious condition. The impact on the residential building caused a fire that spread from the first to the eighth floor, which forced firefighters and rescue services to urgently evacuate residents from the upper floors. In addition, the bombings triggered fires in a nearby warehouse and in a stadium in the same Desnianski district.

Hours later, Klitschko confirmed a third deceased in the Holosivskyi district and emphasized that the missile attack against the Ukrainian capital was still ongoing, urging residents to remain sheltered. He also reported that another person had been injured in the Darnitsia district and was evacuated to the hospital by medical services.

After these events, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, denounced that air defense systems intercepted the missiles when they were already practically over Kiev due to the absence of early alerts from their Western allies. The head of state accused Moscow of ignoring the energy ceasefire proposal promoted by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and warned that Ukrainian intelligence anticipates new launches of ballistic missiles.

"Russia attacks another power plant and the life of our people (...). It is important that the United States and the world really see what is happening and who is responsible for this war continuing," Zelensky has claimed on social media.

This latest Russian attack comes after Trump stated on Monday that he perceives more willingness in his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, than in the Ukrainian leader to reach a peace agreement that ends the war between both countries. "I think that, in fact, Putin wants to make a deal more than Zelensky," said the American president.
