The Vice President of Iran, Mohamed Reza Aref, stated this Saturday that Tehran has a "plan" to confront the economic war initiated by the United States, after Washington began imposing sanctions against various financial entities with the aim of strangling the sources of income of the Islamic Republic.
"We have a plan for the economic war, the enemy will also be defeated on this front," he declared in remarks broadcast by the state chain IRIB, where he emphasized that the "enemy," referring to Washington, "thought it could achieve its objectives by using a group of petty thugs, but this calculation was also wrong."
He also stressed that "the enemy has also attacked the social capital of the system, therefore, preserving social capital is a necessity and a kind of 'greater jihad'," insisting on the importance of maintaining internal cohesion in the face of external pressures.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of the Treasury has begun to implement a series of sanctions against banks and other financial entities that it accuses of collaborating in the financing of the structures responsible for safeguarding Iranian assets abroad, a decision that it explicitly frames in its "economic war" against Tehran.
