The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has reported the detention of the British far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos, who became one of the most visible figures of the emerging conservative 'alt-right' movement and a precursor to the MAGA nationalist current that propelled Donald Trump to the White House.

ICE agents proceeded to arrest him at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans, in Kenner (Louisiana), after his authorization to remain in the country expired.

On July 22, an immigration judge issued a final deportation order against Yiannopoulos, after he failed to appear at the scheduled hearing regarding his immigration status. Since then, he will remain in ICE custody until his expulsion is carried out.

The 41-year-old British analyst has been an editor at Breitbart News and a political advisor to rapper Kanye West. He rose to fame about a decade ago as one of the most combative voices against "political correctness" and as a staunch supporter of then-presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Like other prominent representatives of this diverse movement, Yiannopoulos ultimately fell from grace. It has been a former collaborator of his, Laura Loomer, who has claimed to have facilitated his arrest, after accusing him of having undergone a new ideological shift, this time in support of Muslims.

"Milo is going to be deported back to the UK, where he will be able to live among the Muslims he has recently chosen to embrace," Loomer has written, now turned into a sort of ideological advisor to Trump without an official position, on social media, where she has also accused the commentator of inciting violence against the American president and against herself.
