The Ministry of Justice of Turkey has requested the initiation of the necessary procedures for Interpol to issue an international arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following the attack carried out by Israeli forces against the Gaza-bound Flotilla on May 2.
The Turkish Justice Minister, Akin Gurlek, has detailed on social media that the request has already been sent to the Ministry of Interior, responsible for forwarding the formal request to Interpol along with the documentation that will be provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.
It will be Interpol that decides whether to issue the so-called "red notice," an alert directed at the entire international community, although its effective execution ultimately depends on each member state. Israel, it is worth remembering, has been part of the international police organization since June 1956.
The initiative is also supported by the arrest warrant issued by Turkish Justice in July of this year against Netanyahu for the alleged crime of genocide.
"We do not accept in any way," warned the Turkish Justice Minister, "the idea that the Netanyahu administration, which carries out a policy of genocide in Gaza, is untouchable and immune to accountability."
This movement adds a new chapter to the diplomatic clash between Turkey and Israel, whose relations are going through one of their worst moments as a result of the war in Gaza and, more recently, due to the assault on the Flotilla and several Israeli attacks against a military airport in Syria in light of the possibility, pointed out by Netanyahu himself, that the Turkish Army would deploy a military contingent there.
