The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has condemned the "terrible negligence" of those responsible who authorized the installation of the arsenal that exploded last night due to a Russian attack in the municipality of Bucha, located a short distance from residential areas, a decision that has resulted in a tragic toll of nearly 40 dead and dozens of injured people.
In a new message disseminated on his social media, Zelensky has reiterated for the second time this morning that Ukrainian legislation strictly prohibits locating ammunition depots in areas where the civilian population could be affected by an explosion of this kind.
"This warehouse should not have been there," lamented Zelensky, who described a "terrible situation." The Russian impact triggered the detonation of projectiles, mines, drones, and other munitions, which has caused "significant destruction."
In light of what happened, the Ukrainian leader has already contacted the Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Army Command to initiate "everything necessary" for a thorough investigation.
Zelensky has emphasized that this is not an isolated episode. He recalled that a Russian attack on July 6 in the village of Vishneve, also in the Kyiv region, caused the explosion of an ammunition depot belonging to a company of the state defense conglomerate Ukroboronprom, resulting in eight deaths and nearly 30 injuries.
