The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, stated this Tuesday that the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, should have ordered the deployment of the Army at the border to "guarantee the security" of Spain, after it became known that Moroccan warships entered the waters of Ceuta at the same time as the massive arrival of immigrants. He also reproached him for not having offered explanations in Parliament about this episode and accused him of "lying".
In an interview on 'esRadio', reported by Europa Press, Feijóo explained that at that moment, if Morocco "does not abort that operation," the "logical" thing would have been to make it clear that Spain was willing to deploy military forces at the border.
"And therefore, I reiterate, the Army should have been deployed at the border to guarantee the integrity of our country," Feijóo insisted, a day after Sánchez himself acknowledged in an informal conversation with journalists at the Royal Palace that Moroccan ships entered the waters of Ceuta, as reported by the newspaper 'El País'.
The leader of the PP emphasized that "issues of a country's sovereignty are dealt with at the seat of a country's sovereignty." "And if this happens, the President of the Government has to appear, not lie, tell the Chamber what has happened, and therefore, propose to the Chamber what needs to be done," he pointed out, denouncing the "frivolity in state matters" that, in his opinion, the Executive shows.
"Good neighborliness" with Morocco, but with "firmness"
The head of the opposition stressed that with Morocco there must be a relationship of "loyalty" and "good neighborliness" but also of "firmness," given that "territorial integrity is not negotiated." "And this must be known by Morocco and must be known by any country," he emphasized.
In his opinion, Ceuta constitutes "the accreditation of the indolence, of the frivolity and of the failure to fulfill an essential duty of a Government and of a president, which is to guarantee the territorial integrity of their country." Furthermore, he criticized Sánchez for talking about "very difficult" days and, however, immediately going on vacation to La Mareta (Lanzarote).
Feijóo has admitted that he does not know why the Government "has leaked that information" this Monday, but he has reminded that the judge María Tardón, who is instructing the case about the massive entry in Ceuta, "is waiting for the report from the CNI". "And that report has not arrived yet," he pointed out, warning that, if it is not sent, "it will be the responsibility of the Ministry of Defense, of the Council of Ministers" or "of both".
Demands the Government to send the reports to the National Court
In this line, he has reiterated that the Executive "has to send those reports to the judge of the National Court". "It cannot be that through a newspaper we find out that there are warships from a country that has invaded us in Spanish jurisdictional waters," he added.
After referring to Sánchez's "fears," the leader of the PP commented that a former official of the PSOE conveyed to him that "there are economic interests" of leaders and former leaders of the Socialist Party with Morocco. "Well, everything seems to indicate that yes".
