The co-coordinator of Sumar, Verónica Barbero, has assured that the declassified reports this Wednesday about the massive entry of people in Ceuta confirm that the Moroccan authorities "lowered their arms" and has demanded to "rethink" the relationship with Rabat.
In statements sent to the media, the leader of Sumar has described the declassification as an "exercise in transparency carried out by the Government" and has emphasized that the analysis of the documentation "evidences what we have been saying from day one: the Moroccan authorities lowered their arms."
"That is why the externalization of EU borders is a failed policy. Because it causes third countries to be able to blackmail us with this type of actions putting the lives of thousands of people at risk," Barbero has defended, while criticizing the community strategy on migration issues.
In this context, she has insisted on the need to "rethink our relationship with Morocco" to prevent "situations of this kind from happening again" and similar episodes from repeating at the border.
Finally, she has demanded that, as proposed by the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, "urgent action be taken" and that the migrant people remaining in Ceuta be transferred to the peninsula, in order to study their case "with all guarantees."
