The PP will not put obstacles to the celebration of a five-way debate on Atresmedia in which the candidates from Frente Amplio and Podemos also participate if the negotiation between both leftist forces ultimately fails and they do not manage to present a joint list for the general elections on November 29, according to sources from the campaign committee of the 'popular' reported to Europa Press.

The leadership of the PP gave its approval last week to participate in three debates ahead of the elections: a face-to-face between Pedro Sánchez and Alberto Núñez Feijóo, scheduled for November 16 on Mediaset; a debate with the spokespersons of the groups with parliamentary representation, set for November 23 on RTVE; and a debate on Atresmedia between the heads of list of the main formations, scheduled for Thursday, November 26.

Regarding this last televised meeting, the 'popular' already advanced last week that, since it takes place just three days before the date with the polls, it should be between "PP, PSOE, Vox and whoever presents themselves on behalf of the extreme left in the elections and inherits the proposals of Podemos and IU in 2015, Unidos Podemos in 2016, Unidas Podemos in 2019 and Sumar in 2023."

Awaiting the resolution of the uncertainty about a possible united candidacy to the left of the PSOE, sources from the PP have conveyed to Europa Press that they would welcome the Atresmedia debate on November 26 also incorporating the candidate from Podemos, Irene Montero.

Friday, deadline to register coalitions

The parties integrated in Frente Amplio agreed on Monday to propose former mayor Ada Colau as a candidate for the Presidency of the Government, who this morning has left open the option of renouncing to head the list if it facilitates an understanding with Podemos to articulate a united candidacy.

Colau herself stated in a video released this Tuesday that "there is still time" and extended a hand to ERC and Podemos to sit down and negotiate with the aim of achieving a unique candidacy of the left situated to the left of the PSOE.

Meanwhile, Podemos has closed a collaboration agreement with ERC in Catalonia and claims former Minister of Equality Irene Montero as its candidate and main electoral reference of the left. This Tuesday, the MEP of the purple formation avoided commenting on the "open door" of Frente Amplio to join the confluence with Movimiento Sumar, Comuns, Más Madrid, and Izquierda Unida. "I prefer my silence because I believe it is what can best contribute to things going well," she stated.

The scenario of the alternative left will be defined this Friday, the deadline marked on the calendar to register coalitions for the general elections on November 29.
