The public education of Madrid has taken to the streets of the capital this Wednesday coinciding with the start of an indefinite strike of the teaching staff and in the midst of the pre-campaign for the general elections on November 29. The mobilization has gathered thousands of protesters under a large banner with the slogan "We defend public education. We defend the future", in front of the Palacio de Cibeles.

Among their main demands is to recover a maximum of 17 weekly teaching periods in Secondary and Vocational Training and 22 in Primary. They also propose to reduce the ratios to 13 students in Early Childhood, 15 in Primary, 20 in Secondary, 23 in Baccalaureate, and 15 in Vocational Training.

The protest introduces the situation of public education in Madrid into the political debate of the pre-campaign. The Ministry of Education has described it as "political," an interpretation that the organizers reject, who remind that the mobilizations were planned before the announcement of the electoral advance.
