Ukraine has attacked for the first time with drones a warehouse of Ozon, one of the giants of e-commerce in Russia. The attack took place during the night of this Saturday at facilities of the company located in Chapáyevsk, in the Samara region, and caused damage that forced a temporary halt to the activity of the center.
The offensive is part of a new wave of Ukrainian drone attacks against various points in Russian territory. According to Russian authorities, during the night 457 Ukrainian drones were intercepted in different regions.
First attack against Ozon
The Ozon warehouse becomes a new type of target within the campaign of Ukrainian attacks against infrastructures located in Russian territory. Reuters points out that this is the first known attack against Ozon facilities, after its main competitor, Wildberries, has also suffered attacks in recent weeks.
The impact on the logistics center in Chapáyevsk interrupted the operations of the company. Several people were injured, according to Reuters, although the exact number of those affected at the facilities has not yet been specified.
A wave of attacks against targets in Russia
The attack against Ozon occurred on a particularly intense night. Reuters reports that at least eight civilians died in various drone attacks recorded in several Russian regions, while damage occurred to industrial and logistical infrastructures.
Among the affected places is also the Samara region, where in addition to the Ozon warehouse, industrial facilities were attacked, including an oil refinery in Novokuibyshevsk.
In other regions, such as Krasnodar and Belgorod, fatalities and injuries were also reported. The attack comes a day after another Russian offensive against Ukraine that caused at least 15 deaths and more than a hundred injuries in Kryvyi Rih.
Ozon, one of the major operators of Russian e-commerce
Ozon is the second largest e-commerce platform in Russia, according to Reuters, and has a wide network of warehouses and logistics centers to distribute products throughout the country.
The attack thus adds the facilities of a large distribution and logistics company to an increasingly broad list of targets affected by the war in Russian territory.
For now, the attack on Ukraine has not been officially attributed by the Ukrainian authorities, while Russia has reported the wave of drones and the damage caused in various regions.
