The Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function, Óscar López, highlighted this Thursday in Mexico City that Spain offers "the best conditions for investment" to a group of fifteen Spanish and Mexican technology companies.
During his speech, López focused on clean and affordable energy from renewable sources and on the quality of connectivity as key elements of Spain's competitiveness. He recalled that the coverage of the 5G network reaches 99% of the population and that fixed broadband reaches 95% of the households in the country.
The head of Digital Transformation also emphasized the export strength of the Spanish technology industry and noted that by 2025, the digital economy generated 27% of the national GDP, with a total economic impact exceeding 455 billion euros.
At a working breakfast held at the Embassy of Spain in Mexico, the minister met with six Mexican firms (Alestra/Axtel, IDS Comercial, Incode, Amiti, Softtek, and Itaca Films) and nine Spanish ones (Veridas, Satlantis, Ikusi, Hiberus, Indra-Minsait, Camescom-Seguridata, Cámara Española, Teknei, and Hispasat). In addition, López held bilateral meetings with representatives of the Mexican government.
In the meeting with the Secretary of Anti-Corruption and Good Government, Raquel Buenrostro, the Spanish minister presented the Action Plans for Democracy and the Fight Against Corruption, as well as the measures against digital and telephone fraud that have allowed blocking more than 300 million illegal calls.
Both public officials agreed to promote cooperation in the training of public employees through the National Institute of Public Administration.
On the other hand, López discussed joint research and innovation programs with the Secretary of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation, Rosaura Ruiz, and reviewed the protocol signed between the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and various Mexican scientific entities, in addition to the memorandum signed in April with the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities of Spain.
The bilateral cooperation agenda includes the exchange of knowledge, technology transfer, and the integration of the Latin American supercomputing system into the European EuroHPC network, along with the organization of the Ibero-American Digital Forum that will be held in Madrid at the beginning of November.
The official trip of López has also included two activities of a cultural and social nature: a visit to the National Museum of Anthropology and another to the Primary School "United Arab Republic", where Fundación Telefónica and Fundación LaCaixa develop the educational project "ProFuturo".
