The President of the United States, Donald Trump, communicated this Friday the achievement of an agreement that he has described as "transcendental" with the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, under which Russia commits to supply "immediately" more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to both the U.S. market and the global market.

According to Trump, as detailed on his social media, the pact provides that, after this first shipment, the flow will be maintained with "another 500,000 tons during the month of November and 1,000,000 tons immediately after," which represents a significant reinforcement of the international diesel supply.

Trump has indicated that, depending on the situation of the Russian refineries —in a veiled reference to the Ukrainian attacks on Moscow's energy infrastructure—, the White House's forecast is that Russia can deliver "in a short period of time," a total of three million tons of diesel fuel.

The U.S. president has maintained that, added to the "total control" that, according to him, his country exercises over the Strait of Hormuz (actually blocked by Iran, while Washington controls the surrounding waters), diesel prices "will drop quickly and at record numbers for Americans and for the world."

"My top priority is to reduce prices for Americans, especially for our large farmers, ranchers, and truckers. This is a very big and important announcement," Trump emphasized, taking the opportunity to send a final message to Iran, a close ally of Russia: "You will not have a nuclear weapon."

For his part, the Russian president has ratified the agreement and reiterated his full willingness "to supply oil and petroleum products to the U.S. and global markets," according to a statement released by the Kremlin. "I am convinced that this will have a positive impact on the entire global economy," the Russian leader stated.

In the same text, Moscow has noted that both presidents have reaffirmed their willingness to "continue personal contacts between the presidents of both countries, as well as cooperation between the presidential administrations, special services, and other agencies," thus emphasizing the intention to keep the dialogue and bilateral coordination channels open.
