The PP has presented in the Senate a new set of questions with the aim of once again "putting the magnifying glass" on the Electoral Census of Spaniards Residing Abroad (CERA), considering it "essential" to clarify the reasons for the strong increase in new voters in the Madrid constituency and to "guarantee" that each registration complies "strictly with the legal requirements".

This is the purpose of the almost twenty questions that the party has raised to the Upper House, which Europa Press has had access to, and with which it delves into the scrutiny of the external vote following the controversy generated a few months ago by the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, regarding the so-called 'grandchildren's law' and its possible impact on electoral results.

On this occasion, the 'popular' senators focus their attention on the Community of Madrid, since, according to the data they handle, since May 2023 there has been an increase of 114,815 voters residing outside Spain registered in this province, which represents an increase of 30.4%.

In light of these figures, the PP considers the behavior of the Madrid census "striking" and has directed several questions to the Executive to explain why the CERA of Madrid "grows at a rate that systematically doubles that of Barcelona".

Furthermore, the popular group demands to know how many of the new registrations are due to acquisitions of nationality under the Democratic Memory Law, to transfers from other provinces, to official corrections, or other administrative cases. "It is not about questioning the right to vote of Spaniards abroad, but about ensuring that the census is reliable, verifiable, and correctly assigned," they emphasize in their initiative.

The senators also request details about the registration criteria and the specific role of the Administration in this process. The PP requests clarifications regarding the assignment of municipality by residence, the controls carried out by the Electoral Census Office, the possible differences in actions between consulates, the complaints filed by citizens, and the procedures to eliminate duplications, deaths, or erroneous registrations.
