The political secretary and MEP of Podemos, Irene Montero, has ruled out that her party will join Frente Amplio, while she has claimed that the agreement reached with the spokesperson of ERC in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, remains open to the participation of other formations.
"We are going to keep talking and trying all forms of collaboration," she stated in an interview on "TVE," reported by Europa Press, where she pointed out that progressive citizens "are asking for agreements" between different forces, in which "common points and forms of cooperation" are sought.
"And that is what we are doing," the leader of Podemos reiterated, who has once again defended holding primaries as "the best way to reach agreements" against the "infinite loop" that "leads nowhere."
In this line, Montero has highlighted the pact sealed with ERC, on which they will continue to work and which, as she emphasized, "is open to anyone who wants to join." "Just because things are not done the way some people would like does not mean they are not done with the best intentions," she warned.
Podemos strengthens its alliance with ERC to represent the left
Earlier, in another interview on "Cadena Ser," Montero had defended her party's coalition with ERC as a candidacy that represents "that left-wing majority" and has avoided commenting on the "open door" that Frente Amplio has extended to join the confluence with Movimiento Sumar, Comuns, Más Madrid, and Izquierda Unida. "I prefer my silence because I believe it is what can best contribute to things going well," she stated.
In this scenario, she explained that Podemos will "contribute" to the ERC candidacy and will make "a team" with Gabriel Rufián "throughout the territory" for the upcoming general elections.
The leader of the purple formation has emphasized that the space she shares with Rufián remains open to the incorporation of other parties, including those from Frente Amplio, and has defended that the progressive electorate demanded a "framework of collaboration among different" that, in her opinion, has materialized with the alliance with ERC. "We must continue working so that many more people are there and so that this candidacy represents that left-wing majority," she added.
